Hello fellow Xanadu! My first time on these boards in at least 10 years!! Very happy to have been contacted by Grim for Eve Echoes and looking forward to playing with my long time friends again. Hope to make some new friends too.

I trust everyone is well and I hope our active base is going to be playing this new game. Gaming keeps evolving in terms of smaller devices and great graphics which is amazing compared to how many of us started.

Very excited to be part of the initial launch of a new game.

Hi Guys and Gals,

Grim said it very well in his recent post about us getting older... true grognards of gaming days gone by. There's not much for our type of gaming anymore, but I am sure most of us are kicking along doing something to occupy our minds and fingers. So sound off ... What are you up to, hoping to find some of you still doing something interesting to join you in!

Currently for me I am still playing a lot of table top D&D, but I have also started looking back to some online games (not found anything to speak of yet). I have also be keeping myself busy with a phone app game that while not very deep has some good strategy elements. If anyone is into those I run a small guild there that does well and can add anyone if interested.

Otherwise, SSDD (same shirt different day!) with Covid-19 isolation in here in Australia. Working from home so plenty of hours to fill when I dont have to waste it in meetings!

2020 - New Game - EveEchoes - ANYONE THERE ???

Trust everyone well with you and your families during these interesting times!

Something of a ghost town on here as we all get older, busier and life takes over - but we are always a Xanadu at the core - friendships and community and shared experiences over the past decades. Over 20 years ago we started during the counterstrikes betas, and what 17 years ago started the eve-online betas - fun times.

So I mooched over to EVE to see what was happening these days - we were definitely there at the beginning of a game that has become a huge business - massive player community followings that grew exponentially after we closed down the Xanadu sector of space, I couldnt help noticing that CCP have a new EVE venture coming out this year called EVE echoes - their foray into the IOS/Android mobile space. Graphics look very good, a lot of similarities it seems to the EVe of old in terms of style and community/alliance dynamic. More importantly as this is the mobile variant - I would have thought more workable for our 30s and 40s gang to tap into on a daily basis to keep skills and markets running and operate an effective working unit without too much time stress.

Looks like they completed alpha testing in August 19, undertook open beta testing from December 2019 for 10k people which is now closed for fixes pre launch and they have a live date around mid-Q3 of 2020. As ever its best to start these games from day 1 to strategically position and advance politically - and if we garner enough people for a core team we can dredge out a little corner of Xanadu space as a specialist alliance wing once we work out the dynamics.

Eve use the discord chat app for their online chat forums (like IRC) so I have created a simple Xanadu room there as per below link. Thought I would post here to see how many people sign up over the next few months - see if we can get a team together, I will check discord and this message board a few times a week and we can build from there.

Hi guys,

This xmas we are going to Prague for 2 weeks, and I thought it would be a great idea to visit Vienna for couple days as well.
I know that we have some members from Vienna and Austria, and I'd want to ask for some advises...

- What would be the best time to go? 2-3 days before NY, during NY or after NY?
- We're going to rent an apartment through airbnb (as hotel prices are way too high for this time of the year), what's the best place (district) to stay?
So it's not too expensive, and same time with good transport links, cool neighbourhood, infrastructure.
- What main attractions would you recommend to visit? Some "must see" list?
- Are there going to be some cool NY events in Vienna? Fireworks display? Some shows?
- Maybe some suggestions/comments? About transport, restaurants, what to do etc?

with selfies having become so popular, I recently remembered how it was me who started it all. We sometimes forgot to take screenshots from EQ2 raid targets, so I started taking screenshots with me facing the camera and the raid mob in the background. I think raid leaders weren't amused. But now, so many year later, I notice that it was me who started this selfie trend.

Blame me for slacking 10 seconds during raid. And blame me for starting this popular trend.

... too bad I could not find any of those pics anymore.

We decided to play AD2460 as Xanadu. If you are interested in the game, there is currently the last beta running for some more days.

They added missions, which is basically a pve element in the game and some other things since the last Alpha. Would be glad to see some of you guys around there really! :borg:

While i realise that with the currently utterly diminished community this thread may get no replies at all, i figured it was a fun one to at least try after seeing a similar thing on Neogaf.

Why did you get your first phone? Because my dad got it free through his workplace at the time! wasnt much to behold, literally did calls and texts, no other frills due to its single row calculator style display.

Worst Phone of the bunch: Sony Ericsson C905. It had a really good camera at the time, but that was all it really had going for it. the slider broke after 6 months so you had to press down on the screen when opening it to stop it from getting stuck, and the microphone would randomly cut out so people couldnt hear you speaking due to a crappy design flaw. Signing up to a 2 year contract on it was a huge mistake...

Best Phone in its time: Nokia 6230. Was the longest i ever kept a phone, did everything you could want from a mobile phone in the mid 2000's and never had a problem with it, really solid little handset.

Hey all,
I am really torn if I should post this or not mostly because I am unsure if the person this is about would have wanted me to. But considering the people who still play Vanguard most likely already know I feel it's important that this is posted. I feel this is as much part of a gaming community than having fun together is. I do feel that Takaj would have chuckled about this post and most likely would have thought: "Kal no one cares, just let it be" but I feel it shouldn't be like that.

Takaj (Rogue) a member from our old Vanguard devision passed away last night, for a small amount of you that were close to him already know what most likely happened but for those who don't, I feel it's important to at least shed some light. Even during the time he was raiding in Vanguard he was on borrowed time, his medicines kept his condition under control but he knew that they would eventually stop working and that he would die.

I still remember how shocked I was when he first told me he was terminally ill, half doubting if it was some sort of perverse joke. He didn't like talking about it much, and I didn't want to pry. Therefore I can't tell you what exactly he had but I think it was some form of cancer. He didn't feel like being the sad case of the squad. I know much of him fighting and carrying on to live had to do with his daughter who I think is around 19/21 years old right now. Not wanting to abandon her until it was absolutely necessary. He always said that he didn't want to die until she was ready, I don't know how in his mind a child can ever be ready to lose his/her father but I hope he went on his own terms.

He joined shortly (a few weeks) after me I would say in the time between farming APW and Fengrot got released, we didn't socialize much at first to be honest, that changed when we struggled as a guild on beating Fengrot. We vented our frustration on each other in tells about the lack of common things: focus, efficiency, discipline. From there on we bounded and did a lot together in VG. Takaj was one of the reasons I got through SoD/POTA or even touched level 55, I do not think I would have been able to suffer through that god awful content without friends surrounding me.

I remember him as a true Xanadu caliber player something that many of you know is rare for me to say about someone. A skilled player with an elitist attitude, not the easiest person to get along with at times but after you got past the initial barrier a true friend who would do anything for you in-game or outside the game (if in his means). I once had the opportunity to visit him in France together with Alimora sadly something on his end came up (I believe it was a funeral at the time) and we couldn't meet up. something I regret up until today.

So tonight I am having a beer, to a friend who will be missed, By me at least.

Steam sales sure didn't help with reducing the gaming backlog, even if December turned out to be a fairly good month in terms of completing a few games.

But anyway, a usual the challenge is simple, complete two games in January. They can be games you started in January 2014, or December 1997, it doesn't matter, just get them done by February.
