Xanadu.Vanguard - the end

After Vanguard being one of Xanadu's prime games for 3 years, i sadly have to announce the end of our journey.
Reason is that VG unfortunately doesnt deliver anymore content for raiding guilds, making organisations like Xanadu obsolete.

Being and remaining in top shape for whenever new raid content becomes available was always our prime goal. People quitting over the lack of new content in the past made us equip over 100 people in about 2.400 hours of raiding. But as long as there was hope, we had enough drive to keep going.. which resulted in 20 out of 35 possible server firsts, including pretty much all high profile ones.
The developers have now revealed their plans for 2010 and by that announced all raid content to be shelved indefinately.
As sad as this is, im kinda glad they at least said so in advance. If we had known the plans for 2009, we would have probably not even lasted until today.

Our item database will remain, and as long as people upload new items it will also be updated.

So all that remains is a big thx to everyone who was part of Xanadu.Vanguard,

I want to thank everybody who is supporting xanadu by clicking on google ads. Today I've recieved my first payment from google. Currently the reward is enough to pay 1/3 of our monthly server costs. The rest is financed by donaters, which I also want to express my thanks. :thumbup:

Edit: As stated later in this thread: This is not an invitation to do massive clicking on the google ads. Simply click on it, if you think there is something usefull for you, otherwise you will cause more harm than do good.

As many may have noticed already, I've added Google Ads to our website. The reasons for this are clear for everyone I think. Any money made with this service will go directly to our server fund.

Those ads are not shown to xanadu members. I tried to make the ads fit into the website layout. A very dark one for our dark styles and a bright one for default style.

If you really hate those ads, you can get rid of them by donating a small sum (at least 5 EUR) for our server fund. Either use the button at bottom left or read donating details here.

the summit is over, normal life caught us again... time for a little resumee:
unfortunately quite a few ppl chickend out in the last minute and stayed at home (or didnt find their passports)
zip and her son (cole) arrived saturday the 14th of may, olrik on sunday and grim on monday..

day1: we spent this sunny day in a beergarden close to zip's hotel. wish i could remember who else has been there, but i think we were quite a few in the end. had quite some schnapps and when they closed there around 1am we went to an irsh pub nearby. next thing i remember is a swedish girl with dark hair i hit on unsuccessfully and then xtrim, vipi and me ended up at a "wurstelstand" (some kind of sausage stand with great tradition to be at when your drunk, in vienna). vipi was all :puke: eeek :p

day2: xtrim and me picked up olrik from the airport. then went to look for his appartment, which turned out to be quite a challenge. as a pathfinder at heart i however managed to find it at some point! zip and her son were strolling around the inner city in the meantime. met them for a first few beers there then and went to a heurigen afterwards ( http://www.heuriger-muth.at/ ). were slacking around in that garden there untill it started to rain later in the night

then went to sastul's 2nd living room, the famous http://www.laboule.at/lokal/lokal.html
think that was when vipi made his questionable videos. anyway, he again ended up like the first day :puke:

day3: i should have played a golf tournament but overslept, grim arrived which i also overslept. met the crowd chilling in a pub called http://www.laurel-leaf.at/ and playing darts and pool. an evening to relax.

day4: xtrim and me took olrik, zip, cole and grim to http://www.schoenbrunn.at/ . they have a maze in their park there and also the famous http://www.zoovienna.at/ in which we spent the whole day. our little grim was especially excited about the pandas, the smelly elephants, the polar bears and those huge bats! zip's favorite was the incarnation of her teenage boyfriend in form of an orangutan omg! hmm what did we do after that? ah true, the eat as much as you can spareribs at restaurant engel, or was it drink as much wine as you can?! after that zip, olrik, xtrim and me ended up at http://www.flex.at/ where olrik and xtrim did some nice moves on the dancefloor. we took a taxi home and discovered grim was standing on the street in front of his appartment, in heavy rain. he is the best to tell that full story how he got there and what happend that night, i can just ensure you its hilarious :laugh2:

day5: after tuesday has been quite exhausting we slept long. paintball was planned for today but it was raining very heavy so we rescheduled it to friday. instead xtrim, zip, cole, grim, olrik and me went to see the http://www.seegrotte.at/ , a big underground lake in my hometown. after having dinner in my hometown also, i think we called it an early night since everyone was still knackered from the previous day.

day6: thursday we met for lunch at schnitzelwirt, then we went go-karting. made a 10mins qualifying and an 18mins race there. the final ranking: 8th: vipi -- 7th: xtrim -- 6th: olrik -- 5th: sastul -- 4th-cole -- 3rd: shiva -- 2nd: zip -- and the gold medal goes to aggressive-grim-schumacher! grats :)
after that we went back to the inner city to get some ice cream, while waiting for the star wars episode 3 to start. movie was over around 11pm so we went to the next pub to get some beer. hm then i think it was zip, xtrim and me once again to end up at the flex disco after that.

day7: paintball day, and it was sunny woot! we made 2 teams with the captains beeing zip and my sister. on most fields i gotta admit zip's team (consisting of cole, grim, vipi, olrik and the captain herself ofc) owned us (my sister, her boyfriend, some other non-xan friend, xtrim and me), especially in capture the flag. we played for 4 hours and my legs are still hurting as im writing this now 4 days later. came home around 8pm, then we were relaxing a bit untill 10 and then went to La Boule again to kill a few bottles of vodka. had some nice conversations about how to improve the community etc

day8: olrik and grim had to leave :bigcry:
we met at sastul's place around noon, a tad later i had to drive olrik to the airport already. then we went to http://www.schweizerhaus.at/ , a very nice beergarden in which grim could experience how a real beer needs to look like :ahh:

then drove grim to the trainstation around 6pm. we stayed there untill 8 or something. called it an early night though after that.

day9: zip's leaving :bigcry:
we went to this place to have some food in the early afternoon.

then drove zip and cole to the trainstation and had to say good bye, once again :/

zip will provide some pictures soon i hope, i only made some with my mobile phone which i will also try to get online asap.

the RL HC meetings of zip, grim, sastul and me were pretty productive as you will hopefully see yourself soon.

Anyway. Xanadu is looking to create a guild within guildwars. For those who don't know the game here is a brief outline taken from their Official Site:

One of the advantages of guildwars is that there are no monthly fee's, this allows the more casual gamer to be able to afford the game (and all you poor students).

We are not entirely prepaired for the release of this so the setup of the guild is sketchy but if you are interested in joining Xanadu in this new frontier then contact Steeeeeeve by mail, or contact him on IRC under the name [Xan]S^Death.

Currently recruitment is only open to current Xanadu members.

Xanadu Summit

Like last year, let it be known that there will be an international Xanadu Summit in Vienna again. The summit shall start at 13 of May, and will be officially adjorned at 22 of May. Invited are all Xanadu Community members, all your friends and familiy (for those who dare to come), and ofc people from EVE, EQ2 and WoW that aint too affraid of us.
Contrary to last year we will arrange some sort of event plan, on the agenda are: paintball, go-cart, the flex, hardcore schnitzl eating, lan party - to name some.

I suggest you quickly start booking tickets. NOW :D

I will dig up some links for accomodation in the coming week. Please direct questions about Vienna to Shiva and myself

Signing up for a new account

EDIT: Before signing up with a new email address, please check again, if you have recieved an activation email now. Our mailserver did have some problems last few days, which resulted in emails not being sent out. This is now fixed and everything runs smooth again...

Over the last few days we have had some problems with people signing up for a new account and using hotmail. It seams that the mails are being sent from our end but aren't being recieved by hotmail. We are unsure as to what is causing this but for the time being could you please use an alternative email address (preferably a one supplied by your ISP) when signing up to the site.

All emails are stored securely on the site and are not viewable by members. The only emails you will recieve from the site will be relating to access changes and any community news (which is sent out about once a quater currently).

For all those using hotmail as their current email address could you please check to see if you have recieved any mails from xanadu recently. If you are not sure then please contact an admin (any halfop or higher in #xanadu channel or any op in #help) for further assistance.

Xanadu's Half-Life 2: Team Deathmatch Server

Seems like everything has worked and there wasn't even a big downtime =) For IRC and Teamspeak there were actually no downtime at all =)

Today i've found some time updating our boards again. (Actually i should be learning, but coding seems to be much more fun :P). There is one eagerly awaited feature and one improved part... to make it exciting i start with second one:

New Posts Page
This page has recieved a facelifting and got two new features. First of all you can now select a specific category of which you want to see new posts. And secondly you can also mark all messages of that categoy as read, leaving other categories untouched. Very handy i think =)

Message Board Searches
This nice feature can be found on message boards list, in top tab-bar, next to "Message Boards". The functionality is basic so far, but will help you with finding older messages =) It is not available for guests... sorry...

I've modified quotes tag to be [quote="(name)"] (<- see the two " ). So that it's possible to add a quote of someone with a ] in his name. Old quote style still works, but has the bug as mentioned.

It has been moved left to "Welcome (yourname)". I personally think it looks better that way...

EDIT3: Shoutcast server is also back up...

EDIT: IRC server is back up... services are running also.

Finally after 5 days of downtime xanadu\'s server is back up. A hardware error caused this downtime. Website is back up... at least basic functionality. All other services, bugs and problems will be fixed as fast as possible =)

I kindly excuse any inconvenience...

Note: All times on this server are now UCT... meaning there is not difference between winter and summertime...

After 30 days without login to irc or website, your account will be suspended. This check is now happening daily. Just today 700 people lost their access (not that they really care ;) )

Signature Hosting

UPDATE: Seems like signatures were a bit fucked up in Tree-Mode... fixed it. Now everyone should be able to see them.

I've added a sig hosting for our mboards. Go to Settings -> Mboard. There you can now upload a image which is conform to signature rules (400x120, 30kb, JPG/GIF). This image is then stored in a path accessable by www, which means you can use this signatures e.g. on eve forums.

Ofc your file gets renamed to a random value, but that shouldn't be a problem really.

For time being this image and others added in signature text are allowed. But from 1. September on [img]-tag will be forbidden in signature text!

New/Old Styles

EDIT: Another style is back: Dark Water. Even darker than Rustymetal, this style is for all night owls =)

I've reintegrated rustymetal style into website. You can select it in Settings, on first page a bit down in "Website Details".

It's a darker style created by mindjam quite a while ago. I modified it slightly to fit current website layout and navigation.

as most likely many noticed quite some images did not get chached. Especially EVE Mini-Portraits on board, which caused quite some delay. And also when loading a portrait it stopped at like 99% and then waited and waited for 10s until finally loading.

Those issues have been addressed and are fixed =) Have a even nicer stay on Xanadu boards...

After some starting problems, everything runs smoothly. Both irc server are now linked and can be used as wished. The addresses are:

irc.xanaducorp.net

To auth to services do:
/Xanadu AUTH <ircname> <ircpin>

For non-members ircpin is your normal password. If you do not know your ircname, login to boards on left side and check in Settings.
