After Vanguard being one of Xanadu's prime games for 3 years, i sadly have to announce the end of our journey.
Reason is that VG unfortunately doesnt deliver anymore content for raiding guilds, making organisations like Xanadu obsolete.
Being and remaining in top shape for whenever new raid content becomes available was always our prime goal. People quitting over the lack of new content in the past made us equip over 100 people in about 2.400 hours of raiding. But as long as there was hope, we had enough drive to keep going.. which resulted in 20 out of 35 possible server firsts, including pretty much all high profile ones.
The developers have now revealed their plans for 2010 and by that announced all raid content to be shelved indefinately.
As sad as this is, im kinda glad they at least said so in advance. If we had known the plans for 2009, we would have probably not even lasted until today.
Our item database will remain, and as long as people upload new items it will also be updated.
So all that remains is a big thx to everyone who was part of Xanadu.Vanguard,

Indeed, I think SOE reactivated all old accounts over Christmas (like a few games do).

Hmm, really sad to read that even if i am one of the early drop outs due the horrible game devlopment in the end... i feel with you guys :/
It's always hard when something ends...
Anyhow, since the question is big as it seems from the other comments... whats up next?
For me maybe that Final Fantasy thing which is suposed to be out in 2010, but only so i survive till Heros of Telara... mmorpg.com doesn't really show any other fantasy pearl then that i think?

Sorry to see the death of Xanadu.Vanguard, although it sounds like this was an inevitable decision.

You know i am not the talkative guy , but this deserve a few line from me, even if it was most likely expected, after the announcement i couldn't be help, i had to shed a few tears.
This end 3 years of vanguard for me , of which 2.5 years in xanadu.
Those years have been the best of my 9 years of mmo gaming, it's really been an honor to play with you all, i look forward for our next game, to kick ass again together.
Big thanks to all the officers/raid leaders/leaders that led us through all of this.
Sondrax, take a well deserved break and come back to lead us in our next game!
What's now for me? i dunno yet, maybe will take some time to enjoy a bit some offline games, or i may also pop in EQ2, i have a lvl 78 templar that i have transfered to runny some month ago.

my current plan for now, while waiting fot HoT , is to continue to work on log parser, i would like to make a game agnostic parser (should only take a few minutes to config the parsing rules to run under any game), i will most likely start from the parsing engine i coded for vanguard. should you be interrested to help me (code/design/test/or anything really) contact me

This is sad.
I remember us between cristmas and new year trying to get as much people on to keep raiding, we had even people helping us form the eq2 squad.
From the first mobs in APW( the raiding zone, for those who havent played) to Kotasoth. The rush for it, the constant 2 weeks wipe. The fight for
being the first on the server( at this time i believe some US guild already had Kotasoth down).
It was awesome. We won in the end. The work payed of and xanadu was the first on halgar to down that huge flying monkey.
I remember how they nerfed everything, how easy that fight became in the end. Sad storie.
I played many tons in van.xan, i even started a missing class so we wouldnt have to constantly bot. It burned myself in the end but for the glory of xanadu
no price is high enough to pay. well sounds stupid..but being a true xanadian u ll know how it is.
I ve been playing in Shadows of Doom, a eq1 guild, somewhere in the top 3 on the server at that time. I thought i never ever again will have that feeling
in a guild.
I was wrong.
This guild was the first guild i got to know sondrax who became later my guild leader in more then 1 game, man u rock(befor u wonder, i think u can only rock
if u have the right team behind it, i am a teamplayer, so thanks to everyone who was there). Altough only 1 game was the one which lasted
alsmost as long as eq1(well its a joke, time compared but if SoE ..well nvm all i say is 9 vs 2,5 years i believe).
I saw many people come and go and stop and in the end i was one amongst them.
I hope to see many of u in another game, a game which might keep their promisses and not only the hopes high.
ITS BEEN a HUGE pleasure and fun to play with u ALL.

once a xanadian, always one.

This is a sad read but I understand it entirely. When I jumped for Aion in beta stages I always felt like some day I'd come back and play Vanguard and meet up with the people I know in Xanadu once more. Now I guess it won't happen. Since I can't post on official forums (they block you once your account in canceled I think) I'll have to wish you all the best and good luck on the Xanadu site instead.
Mabs, your parser made the life so much easier for so many of us. Kalbuir, you are a great person and hope to meet you some day again.
And Xanadu community, your item DB is fantastic. Your contribution to the VG community is unrivaled in my eyes. Godspeed and see you somewhere else perhaps.

I enjoyed VG a lot. There was quite a few game concepts that I really liked. Just too bad they had an idiot like Silius on the team who ruined a lot.

Hi all,
I know it's been a while since i played with you guys in vanguard, but it's still sad news, although i would say xanadu's talents deserve a game which is challenging and keeps fresh.
Many respect to sondrax, mikey, ayama and all the others who kept the guild alive through all the game's downsides. I still think vanguard could have been potentially the best game ever.
Hope to play with some of you again soon (if my work schedule will have some sanity soon) in some other game (yes even with you duka).
